Join us at Mariana Castillo Deball’s studio in Berlin, where she talks about her artwork “Reflejo de cien espejos tu cuerpo” (Like a hundred mirrors, I reflect your body, 2011), which is part of the exhibition “FUTURE PERFECT. Contemporary Art from Germany”. The sculpture is part of an ongoing series “Uncomfortable Objects” and brings together a diverse range of materials, forms and approaches relating to space. It’s about figure and background, transience and consistency and the philosophical question about beauty. Her home country Mexico, the ethnographic approach and the exploration of limits are other recurring elements in Deball’s work. ”Reflejo de cien espejos tu cuerpo” is a hanging, yellow sculpture made of papier mâché, a rather unstable material which is used in Mexico for carnival and parties and turns the sculpture into an ephemeral object.
